For how much time will your clock be in the shop?
It depends on the type of clock, the severity of its problems, its age/obsolescence, parts availability, and the number of other repairs that are in queue at the time.
As a general guideline, simple battery clocks typically are ready within 2 weeks. Complex ones, generally 4 to 6 weeks. Modern mechanical clocks which are having complete replacement of their internal components, typically require 4 to 8 weeks in the shop. Simple cuckoo clocks require generally 6 to 8 weeks. Complex cuckoo clocks are typically 6 months to a year. Jefferson “Golden Hour Clocks” typically require about 3 to 4 months.
I do repairs as quickly as I am able, and I am sometimes “faster” than the above times, but it’s always safe to presume that the times can be equal to or sometimes more than, the above. I thank you for your patience and understanding.
Antique/obsolete clocks require the most time.
Repairs and rebuilds on antique/obsolete clocks can present problems that require a few, several, or even dozens of hours of custom machining and fabrication work…. in addition to the normal “repair time” and “testing time” at the bench. Depending on the complexity of the clock, the severity of its problems (and the specific type of attention it needs), and the queue of antique/obsolete work that’s previously been scheduled ahead of it…. an antique/obsolete clock can therefore typically be in the shop for as few as 6 months, to as much as a year or more. It is simply not possible for me to do this class of work “quickly”.
