Custom Machining

JFK has 40 years’ experience in the operation of machine tools, and JFK Clock Repair has a fully equipped machine shop onsite.

JFK can custom-machine or fabricate, and fit and install to your clock…. custom-made, replacement clock parts to replace originals that were hand-made centuries ago, or that are long-obsolete and can no longer be purchased commercially. Clock gears (wheels), arbors, pinions, winding ratchets, bearings, springs, pivots and more.

Escapement Repair

The escapement is that portion of the clock’s train (its wheels, or “gears”) that provides continuous impulse to the pendulum. Every time you hear a “tick” or a “tock”, it is the clock escapement imparting motion to the pendulum in one direction or the other.

Over the decades or the centuries, clock escapements are subject to severe wear to their working surfaces. And some escapements are subjected to poor-quality repair and adjustment attempts by unqualified persons. Any of these scenarios will severely affect a clock’s performance and in the worst cases can even prevent a clock from running at all.
